Home to one of the largest Japanese communities in Europe, the Eastern Asian aspect of Dusseldorf can easily be experienced in the magnitude of Japanese restaurants, shops, schools and sports, music or cultural institutions.
And once a year the entire city puts itself under the banner of the rising sun. Japan Day is an annual festival that celebrates and honours the close relationship to the Japanese community. Strong economic connections are the basis for an amicable relationship between Japan, Düsseldorf and NRW.
Some figures: 11,000 Japanese in NRW, 500 Japanese companies creating 22,000 jobs. Commenced early fifties, first trade then industrial with focus today on services. The event attracts €36 million of expenditures and a participation of around 1 million people.
There will be 10 hours of activities and entertainment focussed on 8 stages throughout the town. The ultimate show will then take place around 11:00 pm with a magnificent Japanese firework performance.
