Following one of the two main axes out of central Oberkassel brings a driver alongside the tram tracks. Follow these up the Hansaallee towards the old industrial areas and the countryside around Meerbusch.
On Saturday and Wednesday mornings, a delightful little collection of stands with market produce can be found towards the cinema. Ranging from fruit and vegetables, through flowers to meats and breads, the fare that can be purchased also includes poultry.
The chickens are fed corn, they aparently live contendedly and are well cared for. And it shows. The eggs are free range or better and the meat is deicious. Bu a "Suppenhuhn" to make "jewish penicilin" on a cold winter day or tender chicken to roast; it all tastes great. And the British may be delighted to know that gizzard is also on offer.
So enjoy their friendly smiles and perfect service and the international feeling of being surrounded by the Japanese locals.
